презентация SOIL TYPES IN KAZAKHSTAN
Kazakhstan possesses vast land resources, spanning over 200 × 106 hectares of agricultural land and more than 23 × 106 of arable land. Due to its position in the center of the Eurasian continent, the country displays distinct horizontal (latitudinal) and vertical (altitudinal) soil zonality. This paper provides a systematic review of the primary soil types in Kazakhstan—including Chernozems, Kastanozems, Sierozems, and desert soils—and evaluates their specific agricultural applications. While the fertile Chernozems of the north support extensive rainfed cereal cultivation, the southern Sierozems and alluvial soils are primary sites for intensive irrigated cropping. However, approximately 75% of agricultural soils in the country face varying degrees of degradation, primarily wind and water erosion, humus depletion, and secondary salinization. This study emphasizes the necessity of conservation agriculture, such as no-tillage (NT) systems and optimized crop rotations, to ensure long-term food security and environmental sustainability in Central Asia.
