ABSTRACT : The Amiret El Fhoul fossil site, located within the Governorate of Monastir,stands as a remarkable repository of marine fossils, prominently featuring bivalves andgastropods. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the marine fossilassemblages found at this site, employing both surface and deep fossil sampling techniques toelucidate the diversity and distribution of these taxa. Surface sampling involved systematiccollection in the fossil site, while deep fossil sampling targeted stratigraphic units throughexcavation and core sampling. The findings reveal a rich diversity of fossilized specimensspanning various geological epochs, offering insights into the evolutionary history andpaleoenvironmental conditions of the region. Surface sampling unveiled a wealth of well-preserved fossils, providing valuable data on the present-day distribution and abundance ofmarine taxa. Conversely, deep fossil sampling delved into hidden layers of sedimentaryformations, uncovering a deeper temporal record of marine life and geological processes. Thisintegrated approach, combining surface and deep fossil sampling methodologies, enhances ourunderstanding of the paleobiogeography and paleoecology of the Amiret El Fhoul fossil site,emphasizing its significance as a key area for marine fossil research in North Africa.
